National Bourbon Heritage Month at The Monarch: The Final Weekend

This is it. September is coming to a close. And that means there are only a few more days to celebrate National Bourbon Heritage Month at The Monarch.

In case you haven’t heard, Monarch is celebrating all month long with a special punch card featuring a variety of bourbons and a bourbon cocktail. Those who complete the card get a t-shirt and engraved high ball glass.

Even if you were unable to get a punch card or make as much progress as you would’ve liked, we have good news for you. You can continue celebrating bourbon at Monarch every month of the year! And with the Fall bourbon allocations nearing, the selection will only be getting better.

For our grande finale, the “top shelf” pick on the punch card, we went with…

Wild Turkey Master’s Keep Decades

Wild Turkey Decades

This is one of those bottles that, just from its appearance, looks like it belongs on the top shelf.

Wild Turkey has released limited edition bottles under its Master’s Keep lineup for the past several years. For 2017, the Decades bottle is 104 proof and contains a blend of bourbons aged between 10 – 20 years. The bottle was also intended to celebrate Eddie Russell’s 35 years at Wild Turkey.

For those who are familiar with Wild Turkey 101, the Decades is a very interesting contrast. Although higher in proof, the nose and approach on the palate are much smoother and more delicate. The nose even brings out some peaches, along with the familiar musty oak and rye spice. The creaminess of the palate complements these flavors and almost creates a cooling effect in the midst of the bottle’s proof. The finish leaves a lingering peppery tangerine and toffee taste.

We’ve thoroughly enjoyed partaking in Monarch’s bourbon trail this past month. Thanks to the folks at Monarch for putting this together, and we’ll continue to celebrate bourbon each month until next year’s event. Cheers!

Gentlemen devoted to the finest.
