For me, the close of summer means a visit to Estes Park, Colorado. And while I’m there, one of the places I always visit is the Stanley Hotel. More specifically, I pay a visit (or three) to the Stanley Hotel’s Cascades Whiskey Bar.
The Stanley Hotel Whiskey Bar continues to stock a wide selection of whiskey – bourbon, Scotch, Irish, and American – with premium selections of each. The bar has also more recently begun to feature whiskey flights, which is very helpful when being tasked to select from so many different choices.
This most recent visit, I decided to try the bar’s flight featuring three of their single barrel whiskey picks – Russell’s Reserve Single Barrel Bourbon, Knob Creek Single Barrel Bourbon, and Lossit Scotch Pedro-Ximenez Sherry Cask Finish.

Although we recently concluded our series of out-of-town whiskey bars, co-founder Chris Crow recently met up with former member Nate Delaney at the famous Canon in Seattle, Washington, an experience that gives us good reason to reopen the series.
Canon Whiskey and Bitters Emporium describes itself as a “small, intimate restaurant that can accommodate parties of 4 or fewer.” That only begins to paint the picture of this quaint little Capitol Hill neighborhood bar that opened in 2011.
Week 1 of National Bourbon Heritage Month is in the books. If you haven’t heard yet, Monarch is celebrating all month long with a special punch card featuring a variety of bourbons and a bourbon cocktail. Those who complete the card get a t-shirt and engraved high ball glass.
We’ll be chronicling our celebration as we move through the punch card. First up, the bourbon cocktail.
Any of The Monarch’s bourbon cocktails will satisfy this part of the punch card. We decided to go with the Smoked Bourbon.
If you are reading this post, chances are you’re not short on reasons to celebrate bourbon. However, chances are also that most of you wouldn’t turn down such an opportunity.
