Stephen Netherton, a Flight Club member since 2015, was once lost. He was lost in a world that featured a seemingly overwhelming number of various cocktails, whiskies, and other spirits. He knew not, as a young professional with a young family, how to navigate such a world. That is, until, he accepted the invitation in 2015 to become a member of Flight Club.
Mr. Netherton’s role within the club expanded in 2016, when he became editor-in-chief of the club’s Web site and took on the challenge of networking with local liquor store managers in search of allocated and special-release whiskies. Mr. Netherton’s networking has come in handy on several occasions, when he has been able to acquire for himself and other group members certain allocated bottles that otherwise would fetch far higher prices online and in the secondary market. Investing in this “buy local” strategy, and lending a hand to store managers searching for a particular demographic of high-end customers, led to Mr. Netherton being named as Flight Club’s 2016 Man of the Year (MOTY).
When he’s not networking with local store managers, Mr. Netherton works on developing his law practice and spending time with his wife and two children. His favorite Wichita bar is Monarch, in Delano. His go-to bottle at Wichita liquor stores is Old Weller Antique. If he could share any bottle with anyone, living or dead, he would share a bottle of Pappy Van Winkle 23-year with Jesus.
